Copper, Murphy earn gold, Rivera takes home bronze
PARIS - With the close of the 2024 Olympics in Paris, three Scarlet Knights – Kahleah Copper, Casey Murphy and Sebastian Rivera - can now add Olympic medalists to their incredible careers.
Copper helped guide Team USA to its eighth-consecutive gold medal with an explosive fourth quarter as the U.S. edged past host country France 67-66. She scored 10 of her 12 points in the final frame and added five rebounds, two assists and two steals off the bench.
Murphy became the third Scarlet Knight to earn a gold medal on the pitch, joining Saskia Webber, who earned gold at the 1996 games in Atlanta and Carli Lloyd, a two-time gold medalist in 2008 (Beijing) and 2012 (London). Lloyd was also a member of the bronze-medal team in 2020 (Tokyo).
Copper and Murphy were part of a historic haul for Team USA as the U.S. women's team claimed 26 gold medals, the most by a women's team in a single Olympics.
Representing Team Puerto Rico, Rivera earned his spot on the podium in impressive fashion. Rivera scored a takedown of Tulga Tumur-Ochir (Mongolia) at the buzzer to claim the bronze medal in 65kg freestyle.
The historic win capped an impressive run for Rivera, who was drawn back into repechage after his quarterfinal opponent, Kiyooka Kotaro (Japan) advanced to the gold medal match. With another opportunity to medal, Rivera cruised in his repechage match with Maxi Sacultan (Moldova) by 15-4 technical superiority to move on to his bronze medal bout.

If Rutgers was a country, we would have finished 29th in golds and 58th in medals, ahead of the likes of Chile, Morocco and Malaysia.#RutgersNation | #OlympiansMadeHere pic.twitter.com/OJirt2TRdp
