Women's Golf Ties for Sixth at Badger Invitational

Madison, Wis. – Rutgers women's golf opened up the 2024-25 season with a sixth place finish at the Badger Invitational on Tuesday.

Competing in the event for the fourth straight season, the Scarlet Knights secured their best finish in that span, improving on last year's t-11th finish.

RU wrapped up the tournament tied with Yale for sixth place with a final score of 39-over 903 (298-302-303).

"I was happy with the start we had on Sunday," head coach Kari Williams said. "On Monday and Tuesday we weren't as sharp and struggled to convert birdies opportunities, but I did see a lot of great golf shots. Joline came out and had a nice tournament to start her career as a Scarlet Knight. This is an experience for us to build on as we continue to play through the fall."

Round 3 – Tuesday, September 10th
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temps in mid-60s, 5-15 mph winds

Freshman Joline Truong earned a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut, tying for sixth with a 3-over 219 (71-74-74) for the tournament. After a 1-under 71 in her first round, she carded back-to-back rounds of 2-over 74 to round out the event. After adding three birdies in her final round, she finished with eight for the tournament.

"It was exciting to play in my first college tournament," Truong said. "I tried my best to just play my game and make a lot of pars on this challenging golf course. I learned a lot about my game this week and I'm looking forward to building on this experience."

Lucrezia Rossettin finished just behind in a tie for 13th with a 6-over 222 (69-76-77) on the week and finished her outing with seven birdies.

Grace Lu improved with each round as the tournament went on, closing out with a 3-over 75 to move up to a tie for 54th with a 19-over 235 (83-77-75). Lu used four birdies in her final round to close strong.

Krystal Li finished just one stroke behind with a 20-over 236 (84-75-77) to finish in a tie for 56th. Emily James rounded out the team competitors in a tie for 62nd with a 23-over 239 (75-81-83).

Round 1 – Sunday, September 8th
Weather: Overcast, Temps in mid-60s, 5-15 mph winds

Lucrezia Rossettin paced the field with a 3-under 69 in her first round of the season, tying atop the leaderboard with Sam Houston State's Grace Jin. Her round was highlighted by four birdies on the front nine and five total. She bogeyed just two holes and added 11 pars.

"It was fun to get back into tournament golf," Rossettin said. "I think it was helpful having played this event before and using that experience to my advantage. The wind was up and gusting today and I tried to stay disciplined while taking advantage of opportunities when I got them. We'll try to keep it going in round two!"

Joline Truong had an impressive collegiate debut, firing a 1-under 71 in her opening round. Her day was highlighted by a 3-under 33 on the front nine which featured a trio of birdies and no bogeys.

Emily James sits 20th overall after her first round, shooting a 3-over 75. Her back-to-back birdies on No. 14 and 15 helped her close out the day strong.

"I have been excited about seeing this team compete," head coach Kari Williams said, "Lu came out and posted a great score for us and Joline did an excellent job in her first collegiate round to stay calm and stick to the game plan. We still have some bogies to clean up out there but after round one, but I am happy with the position we are in."
