
Women’s Golf Closes Day Two of Big Ten Championships

GLENDALE, Calif. – Rutgers women's golf finished round two of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday in Glendale, California. Rookie Elizabeth Ryu shot up 23 spots on the leaderboard with a one-over-par 71 to highlight action for the Scarlet Knights at the Oakmont Country Club.
In a field that features nine top 50 programs, RU is 16th with a 48-over-par 608 (308-300). No. 2 USC leads with a four-under-par 556 (277-279), followed by No. 32 Ohio State (+7) and No. 45 Purdue (+7). USC's Balley Schoemaker is atop the leaderboard with a five-under-par 135 (70-65).
"Conditions today were tougher with lower temps and higher winds," said head coach Kari Williams. "We had some better stretches of golf and need to be ready to compete hard tomorrow."
RU tees off tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET from the 10th hole to open the final round. Rutgers will be paired with Nebraska and Wisconsin during Sunday action.
Day Two – Saturday, April 25
Weather: Sunny, Temps in the low-60s, 5-10 mph winds
Ryu enjoyed a strong Saturday, producing birdies on holes four, seven and 13 along with 12 pars to finish with a one-over-par 71. Her second-round result moved her up 23 spots on the leaderboard to tie her for 32nd heading into Sunday.
Redshirt senior Grace Lu produced a five-over-par 75 to move to 61st. Sophomore Joline Truong tallied a six-over-par 76 with a birdie on hole seven to move to 75th, while classmate Judy Amano sits in 71st after h er nine-over-par 79. Junior Emily James is 86th to round out the team scorecard.
Day One – Friday, April 24

Rutgers wrapped up the opening round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday in Glendale, California. With the 18-team field featuring nine top-50 programs, the Scarlet Knights were 16th with two rounds left to play at the Oakmont Country Club.
No. 2 USC led the field with a three-under-par 277, followed by No. 50 Illinois (+2) and No. 32 Ohio State (+2). Illinois' Anna Ritter was atop the individual leaderboard with a five-under-par 65 in the opening round.
"We struggled today to execute our game plan," Williams said.. "This is a championship-level course and setup, and this field is the most competitive we've seen all year. I know we can manage ourselves better and make fewer mistakes out here. We need to come out tomorrow and fight for every stroke because there is a lot of golf left to play over the next two days."
Amano, Lu and Ryu all finished Friday play with six-over-par 76s. Ryu rolled in back-to-back birdies on holes two and three, while Amano added a birdie on the 14th hole.
Truong (+10) and James (+12) rounded out the team scorecard.
