PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Wrapping up a successful "A Walk to Believe," the 14
th annual edition raised $120k towards Team LeGrand with over 1,000 participants parading down
The Rutgers Boardwalk in celebration last Saturday.
Eric LeGrand launched Team LeGrand, a fundraising arm of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, to help individuals living with spinal cord injury and their families by supporting quality of life initiatives and emerging therapies that will get us to the end zone — cures for spinal cord injuries. "We're honored and grateful to have partnered with Rutgers Football to celebrate Eric and raise critical funds for spinal cord injury research," said Maggie Goldberg, President and CEO of the Reeve Foundation. "Eric is a tireless advocate for the paralysis community and each day works to make the world better for people living with disabilities. To have the entire Rutgers community join in his heroic efforts made this year's event extraordinary."
"You guys started this 14 years ago, and we had a dream of filling this stadium," LeGrand said. "And today, 14 years later, look where we've come. This is amazing, today we give them hope, and we believe!"
This year's "A Walk to Believe" spanned from April to September, with participants encouraged to run, walk, skate or roll to a 5K at their own time and pace. The event is sponsored by GGL Law Firm and Prudential.
"I want to thank everybody," head coach
Greg Schiano said after the Scarlet Knights' 49-17 win over Akron. "The guys told me there was like 1,000 people following Eric down Scarlet Knight Way. A big, huge thank you for everybody who did that. Karen, his mom, she was truly elated. She told me this is the best one we've had. That made me feel good. I am really thrilled how great an event this has become."
