Pinto, Shawver Selected for NWCA All-Star Classic

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Dylan Shawver (133) and Lenny Pinto (174) were selected to compete in the 2025 NWCA All-Star Classic, presented by Nike Wrestling, on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Jersey Mike's Arena. Tickets for the event, which is set to begin at 7 p.m., can be found here.

"What an awesome opportunity for both of these guys to compete in this event at Jersey Mike's Arena," said head coach Scott Goodale. "These guys have been given an opportunity, and they are looking to take full advantage of it. I'm excited to see our fans pack this place and make this an electric atmosphere."

It marks the second time in program history Rutgers wrestling will have multiple selections for the NWCA All-Star Classic. Anthony Ashnault and Richie Lewis both competed in Cleveland in 2016, when Ashnault defeated Bryce Meredith (Wyoming) in overtime by 8-6 decision, while Lewis downed eventual national runner up Joey Lavallee (Missouri) in the 157-pound undercard match.

Now in his first season with the Scarlet Knights, Pinto produced 70 career wins at Nebraska, qualifying for the national tournament three consecutive seasons from 2023-25. Last season, Pinto went 24-7 in his first varsity season at 174 pounds, finishing as the runner-up at the 2025 Big Ten Wrestling Championships in Evanston, Illinois. The Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, native earned the No. 8 seed at the NCAA Championships, where he produced three victories, advanced to the Blood Round and helped Nebraska to a historic runner-up team finish in Philadelphia.

"I'm excited to be selected for my first all-star match and to be able to compete so close to home in front of my friends and family," Pinto said. "Our time in this sport is so short, so when these moments come up, you have to be ready for them. I'm excited to put on a show for the fans and introduce myself to the Jersey crowd."

A Big Ten Champion and NCAA All-American, Shawver produced 22 wins last season en route to his third NCAA Championships appearance. Shawver finished the regular season ranked No. 10 in the coaches poll after he closed the 2024-25 regular season with a team-best 52 team points in dual action. In five seasons 'On the Banks,' Shawver has collected 88 career victories.

"I'm psyched. Not many people get this opportunity," Shawver said. "This being my last collegiate season, it's an opportunity that I cannot just let go by. Now that I'm in it, it's definitely something that I'm really excited to be in."

Jersey Mike's Arena continues to be one of the premier venues in the sport, with the venue hosting the 2020 Big Ten Championships and 2019 Final X in recent years. Rutgers finished fifth in national attendance last season, marking the eighth time in nine campaigns the Scarlet Knights finished within the top five nationally and the ninth consecutive year appearing in the top 10.

Rutgers produced seven national qualifiers and three Blood Round participants at last year's NCAA Championships in Philadelphia. The Scarlet Knights wrapped up the regular season No. 11 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll, marking the program's highest finish in the rankings since they closed the 2015-16 campaign No. 10. It also signified RU's 13th top 25 final team ranking under Goodale.

Along with Pinto, Rutgers welcomes several impact transfers to next year's squad, including heavyweight Hunter Catka (Virginia Tech) and 197-pounder Remy Cotton (Michigan State). The trio has combined for seven NCAA Championships appearances during their collegiate careers.
