PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers athletics continued its strong academic performance in the annual Graduation Success Rate (GSR). The streak of quality rankings continued with the release of 2025 data, as Rutgers received an overall GSR score of 92 in Wednesday's annual NCAA report.
The score of 92 bettered last year's number and marked the second highest score in school history, only behind the school record of mark of 93 received in 2023. The Scarlet Knights have recorded an overall GSR of 90-plus in each of the past six years and scored above an overall rate of 85 for the 16th consecutive year.
Eight programs - men's golf, women's basketball, gymnastics, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving and women's tennis - earned perfect 100 GSR scores. Thirteen programs received a score of 91 or better and nineteen were at an 85 or better. All 20 programs recorded a GSR score that was tied or surpassed the federal rate (Division I) within their respective sports in this year's report.
Gymnastics has recorded a 100 in every NCAA report to date, marking 20-straight years. Women's lacrosse (11), women's swimming and diving (nine), women's basketball (eight) and tennis (seven) have also maintained perfect rates over multiple years. Men's golf posted its fifth-straight 100. 15 programs (six men's teams and nine women's teams) bettered or equaled last year's scores. Men's lacrosse equaled its program record with a 97 and men's soccer tied its previous program record with a 94.
Each year, the NCAA publicly announces the GSR of all Division I institutions. This year's numbers reflect an average for students who entered college from 2015-18. The GSR begins with the federal cohort and adds transfer students, mid-year enrollees, and non-scholarship students (in specified cases) to the sample. Student-athletes who leave an institution while in good academic standing before exhausting athletics eligibility are removed from the cohort of their initial institution. This rate provides a more complete and accurate look at actual student-athlete success by taking into account the full variety of participants in Division I athletics and tracking their academic outcomes.
