PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (5-5, 2-5) defeated Maryland (4-5, 1-5), 35-20, on Saturday at SHI Stadium.

RB Antwan Raymond tied a program record with 41 carries for a career-high 240 yards and a touchdown, also setting a program mark for most yards in a Big Ten game. His 240 yards were the third-highest single-game total in the country and the most in a single game by a Big Ten player so far this season.

QB Athan Kaliakmanis tied a career high with four touchdown passes, while WR Ian Strong set a career high with three touchdown receptions, both marks tying the program record for a Big Ten game.

DL Eric O'Neill led the defense with a career-high 10 tackles and two tackles-for-loss. DB Jett Elad intercepted his second pass of the season.

FIRST QUARTER
Maryland scored first on its opening possession, but both defenses held firm until the end of the quarter. Kaliakmanis completed two passes for 15 or more yards in the first 15 minutes, including a 20-yard connection to WR KJ Duff in the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER
The Scarlet Knights put 21 points on the board in the second quarter, beginning with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Kaliakmanis to WR DT Sheffield. Kaliakmanis' first touchdown pass of the night capped a seven-play, 53-yard scoring drive to tie the score up at 7-7 with 11:56 left before half.

After the Terrapins regained the lead with a field goal, Rutgers punched back thanks to Kaliakmanis and Strong. Facing a Maryland blitz, Kaliakmanis stepped up in the pocket to find a wide-open Strong for a 45-yard touchdown pass, putting RU back on top 14-10 at the 4:14 mark in the second quarter.

Maryland scored on its next possession before the Scarlet Knights closed the half with an exclamation mark. Kaliakmanis threw his third touchdown of the half to Strong, with the five-yard score making it 21-17. RU's defense held Maryland off the board before halftime thanks to an interception from Elad, as Rutgers took a 21-17 lead into the break.

THIRD QUARTER
Rutgers struck first out of the locker room, as Kaliakmanis connected with Strong for a 14-yard touchdown. Strong's third of the night made it 28-17 with 10:26 left in the quarter. The RU defense held strong in the quarter, keeping the Terrapins off the board and taking an 11-point advantage in the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
Maryland made it a one-score game on a 44-yard field goal with 13:34 remaining. After the Rutgers defense forced a three-and-out on the Terrapins' next possession, the offense put the game away with a nine-play, 66-yard scoring drive. Raymond carried it in from five yards out for his 11th touchdown of the season, giving RU a 35-20 lead with just over four minutes remaining.

The Scarlet Knights forced Maryland to turn it over on downs on the next possession before the offense ran out the clock to secure the victory.
NOTES

• Rutgers defeated Maryland for the second straight season, the ninth time in the series and fifth time in Big Ten play.
• Head coach Greg Schiano won his 99th game leading Rutgers football.
• Rutgers improved to 73-26 under Schiano when leading at halftime, 58-16 when scoring at least 30 points, 75-23 when allowing less than three offensive touchdowns, 41-23 when totaling at least 400 yards of offense, 41-5 when rushing for at least 200 yards and 13-5 when committing less than three penalties. The Scarlet Knights had a season-low one penalty against.
• RB Antwan Raymond rushed for a career-high 240 yards, his fourth career game in triple figures, third most in a game in program history, most in a conference game, most for RU in a Big Ten game and most by a Scarlet Knight in a home game. The total was the most by a Big Ten player in 2025 by 55 yards and third highest nationally. It was the 20th 200-yard rushing game in program history and first since Kyle Monangai had 208 versus Akron in 2024.
• Raymond is at 1,000 rushing yards for the season in becoming the ninth player in program history to reach the number. It marks the third straight season a Scarlet Knight reached quadruple figures in a season, as Monangai achieved the feat in 2023 and 2024.
• Raymond had 41 rushing attempts to tie Savon Huggins (2012 at Cincinnati) and Jawan Jamison (2012 at USF) for the most carries in a game in program history.
• Raymond has now scored at least one rushing touchdown in nine of the past 12 games dating back to last season. It was his 11th of the year to tie Gavin Wimsatt (2023) for 10th most in a season in program history.
• QB Athan Kaliakmanis matched his career high with four touchdown passes, becoming the first Scarlet Knight with multiple four-touchdown games in a season since Gary Nova had three such games in 2014. It was the third time a Scarlet Knight threw four touchdown passes in a Big Ten game, joining Chris Laviano (2015 versus Maryland) and Gary Nova (2014 at Maryland). He is up to 35 overall for Rutgers, passing Frank Burns (1945-48) for seventh most in program history.
• In 2025, Kaliakmanis has registered 17 scoring passes to tie Ryan Hart (2004) for ninth most in a season in program history. He is up to 2,705 passing yards this year in becoming the first Scarlet Knight to reach 2,500 passing yards in consecutive seasons since Mike Teel (2007-08). In addition, he has now reached 200 passing yards in a game in three straight weeks, nine times in 2025, 16 times as a Scarlet Knight and 19 times in his career.
• WR Ian Strong had a career-high three receiving touchdowns, the first Scarlet Knight to reach the mark in a game since Leonte Carroo at Indiana in 2015 and tying the program record for a Big Ten game. He now has 12 career scores, one away from moving into the top 10 in the Rutgers record book.
• WR DT Sheffield brought in his fourth receiving touchdown and 15th at the FBS level. He has had at least three receptions in all 10 games in 2025.
• WR KJ Duff recorded multiple receptions for the 17th straight game. He totaled 69 receiving yards and is up to 923 in 2025, eighth most in a season in program history.
