PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball (2-1) fell to Stony Brook (2-1), 71-54, on Sunday afternoon at Jersey Mike's Arena.
Nene Ndiaye (16) and Imani Lester (11) both reached double figures while Janae Walker's six rebounds paced the team off the glass.
The close contest featured four lead changes and two ties, but Stony Brook prevailed to ultimately take home the victory.
How it Happened
- Stony Brook got on the board first with a layup on its first possession. Nene Ndiaye cut the lead in half with a free throw, but the Seawolves countered with two shots at the line to keep the 4-1 edge.
- The opposition scored again at the 6:06 mark, netting another layup to go ahead by five at the 5:00 media timeout.
- The Scarlet Knights bounced back, outscoring the Seawolves 10-2, highlighted with a three from Kaylah Ivey and a three-point play from Nene Ndiaye.
- Stony Brook answered with five consecutive points, but Imani Lester came back with a three of her own.
- SB ended the quarter with one more field goal to take the one-point lead into the second quarter, 15-14.
- The Seawolves outscored RU 5-3 at the 7:53 media timeout to retain the 20-17 lead.
- SB added a layup out of the stop, but Lester netted back-to-back buckets for Rutgers to keep it close, 22-21.
- Stony Brook responded with a 6-3 stretch of their own to take a four-point lead, 28-24. However, Janae Walker made both shots at the charity stripe to bring it back in, 28-26.
- Both squads added another layup and with 1:30 remaining kept the two-point gap, 30-28.
- Lester took it all the way with another layup, but the Seawolves netted three points to end the opening half, 33-30.
- The Seawolves came out strong with eight consecutive points to widen the gap, 41-30, through the first three minutes.
- Nene Ndiaye put an end to the stretch with a layup, but SB came back with three points to keep the 44-32 advantage with 5:41 to play.
- After another media break, Nene Ndiaye netted a contested layup but Stony Brook matched it, staying 12 points ahead.
- Ivey came through with her third shot from deep of the day, and Perkins added two free throws to cut the gap to single digits, 46-39.
- Each team added two free throws before the final minute of the third period.
- In the final moments, Antonia Bates scored her first points of the season with a three-pointer, while Nene Ndiaye also added another free throw.
- SB cashed in on a pair of shots from the charity stripe though, to stay on top by five, 50-45, heading into the final 10 minutes.
- The teams started the fourth quarter trading layups in the opening four minutes. However, the opposition recorded seven in a row to force an RU timeout, 59-47.
- Out of the stop, the Seawolves pushed the lead with seven more points, 66-47, and forced another Rutgers timeout with three minutes to go.
- Nene Ndiaye added two shots from the charity stripe after the break in addition to a layup.
- The team matched threes just before the final minute of play, keeping SB in control, 71-52.
- Bates recorded two free throws to end the contest but Stony Brook coming out victorious, 71-54.

Knights Notes
- Nene Ndiaye reached double-digits for the third straight contest with a team-high 16. She paces RU with 16. 3 points per game.
- Imani Lester recorded 11 points, her second contest of the season with 10+ points.
- Kaylah Ivey recorded three shots from deep for the second game in a row and leads the team with eight threes.
- Janae Walker started her second consecutive game for the Scarlet Knights and topped the team with six rebounds.
- All eight of RU's bench points came from Antonia Bates, who netted two threes and two free throws. The points mark her first in 363 days, since returning from injury.
