Defense/Special Teams: Five Named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Five from Rutgers football were recognized as honorable mention All-Big Ten for defense and special teams, the conference announced Wednesday. DB Bo Mascoe earned the status in both the coaches and media votes, LB Dariel Djabome (media) and PK Jai Patel (coaches) each merited honors for the second time in their careers and P Jakob Anderson (media) and DB Jett Elad (coaches) both picked up their first Big Ten postseason plaudits.

Jakob Anderson
P JAKOB ANDERSON
Helping the Scarlet Knights rank second in the Big Ten and 18th nationally with a 41.85 net punt average, Anderson forced 17 fair catches with only one touchback in 33 attempts. The Aussie landed 10 kicks inside the 20, including a season-long 68-yard attempt downed at the four against Iowa, a 65-yarder stopped at the two at No. 1 Ohio State and another downed at the one at Illinois. Anderson and the punt unit allowed only five returns on the season.

Dariel Djabome
LB DARIEL DJABOME
Djabome posted 71 tackles with 4.5 for loss and two sacks this season, adding two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Starting all 12 games, the team captain had a season-high 10 stops at No. 1 Ohio State, while contributing eight tackles in games versus Iowa and Minnesota. The Canadian forced two fumbles at Washington and had a sack for a loss of 11 yards against Penn State. Djabome, a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy which honors the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation, is recognized in the All-Big Ten voting for the second straight year and finishes his collegiate career with 192 tackles.

Jett Elad
DB JETT ELAD
Starting all 12 games in the secondary, Elad led the Scarlet Knights with 80 tackles and two interceptions this season, adding three tackles-for-loss, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and blocked punt. The Canadian had at least five tackles in nine games with a season-high 11 tackles versus Penn State, bringing in interceptions versus Maryland and Norfolk State. He recovered a fumble late at Purdue to help set up the winning field goal, while blocking a punt that was returned for a score versus Norfolk State.

Bo Mascoe
DB BO MASCOE
Mascoe posted four pass breakups, an interception, two forced fumbles and 53 tackles with two for loss in 12 starts in 2025. He matched his career high with nine stops at No. 1 Ohio State, adding a forced fumble, while also knocking the ball free in the win over Maryland. The Kissimmee, Florida, native had a 68-yard interception return versus Miami (Ohio), the seventh-longest such return in program history.

Jai Patel
PK JAI PATEL
Patel converted 13 field goals and 37 extra points to score 76 points for the Scarlet Knights in 2025. He started the year with five consecutive makes to set the school record with 18 consecutive conversions dating back to last season. The Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, native matched his career long after hitting from 51 yards against No. 8 Oregon. At Purdue, he made from 20 yards away to tie the game with 1:06 remaining and from 30 out as time expired for the walk-off winner, one of five games on the season with multiple makes. The performance merited Big Ten Co-Special Teams Player of the Week. Patel ranks first in program history in career field goal percentage (78.2), fifth in career made field goals (43) and seventh in career scoring (236).
