
Reguinho, O’Neil Set School Records In 5,000M

BOSTON – Rutgers track and field sent a group of distance runners to open the indoor season at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday, December 6. Lucas Reguinho and Kelseigh O'Neil highlighted the weekend for the Scarlet Knights as the pair posted school record times in the 5,000-meter.
Reguinho toppled the oldest standing individual indoor record when he ran 14:10.99, beating the previous record time of 14:12.90 set by Jim Casey in 1981. O'Neil also replaced a more than 30-year record when she ran 16:23.51 in the event, taking over the top spot held by Alicia Guiliano in 1993 with her time of 16:24.26.
In addition to the double school records, the men's team also saw each of its five runners earn a spot on the program's all-time top-10 list. Micah Lawson ran 14:11.58 which was also below the previous school record time to sit second on the all-time list. He was followed by Liam Tilton with a time of 14:13.60 (fourth), Stephen Kyvelos in 14:27.93 (seventh) and Maan Patel in 14:29.03 (eighth).
The Scarlet Knights will continue the 2025-26 season in the New Year when they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Select on Saturday, January 10.
