Chop4Change: Sixth Annual Coat Drive
Dec 08 | Football
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – As part of Chop4Change and in partnership with RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers football's sixth annual coat drive is taking place during the holiday season with the backing of student-athletes and staff. The Scarlet Knights will provide 540 new winter coats to elementary and middle school students throughout the state of New Jersey.
Macy's is proud once again to promote Chop4Change for the sixth consecutive year with discounted coats and Macy's gift cards. In support, Rutgers Athletics partner Ed Nugent of Red Door Real Estate is purchasing 150 coats to the efforts.
To boost the program, Rutgers football student-athletes will visit multiple RWJBarnabas Health hospitals this month to help distribute the coats.
In collaboration with RWJBarnabas Health's Community Health team, coats are being donated to non-profit organizations affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, Jersey City Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
Chop4Change has donated over 2,000 new winter coats over the previous five years. The initiative has also provided gift cards for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners, headsets for children to learn during the pandemic, delivered school supplies to elementary schools previously attended by players, supported veteran groups and hosted CPR and AED training for youth football coaches. Overall, the programs have raised over $550,000 since 2020.
