Delaney Adrian: A Star in the Making

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - For Delaney Adrian, gymnastics is all she's ever known. From a young age, the sport stuck out to her and instantly became hers and her passion.
"I did gymnastics my whole life," Adrian reminisced. "My goal was always to do it collegiately."
That dream of becoming an elite gymnast at a University program has started to actualize for Adrian. With her collegiate career unfolding before her eyes, all of those times picturing this stage are now becoming reality.
Joining the team at Rutgers was a choice that Adrian did not take lightly. The location of the University was just a plus, but this program felt like one that would integrate the freshman seamlessly.
"When I came for my official visit to Rutgers it felt like a family," said Adrian.
The athletic culture that radiates from the University is one that many athletes have seen with fondness and appreciation. And for a gymnast joining the cause, that same ideal rang true.
The gymnastics team has created a sisterhood within its walls. Athletes lean on each other like siblings and that drew Adrian to this program, knowing that she would have all the support she needed for a season full of competitions.
"It's awesome being able to do gymnastics with my friends, with my team," Adrian said. "I think it's really great that I'm doing my routines for more than just myself because at the end of the day it's about the final team score."
What mattered most to Adrian, was being able to make an impact on her new crew as soon as she could.
"I wanted to come somewhere and make a difference."
And with the Scarlet Knights, Adrian has absolutely made a difference.
Adrian has quickly become one of the strongest performers on the Scarlet Knights squad. In just a few meets, Adrian has risen to the top. The underclassman has taken the newfound role in stride, competing consistently and confidently.
Adrian leads the Rutgers squad in All-Around performance with a high score of 38.950. She has set her career highs this season in every event. Her consistency in every event shows, with highs of 9.750 on vault, 9.825 on bars, 9.825 on beam, and 9.875 on floor.
Adrian speaks humbly, crediting her fellow teammates and freshmen with their hard work and drive that has made this 2025 season one of the best starts this program has seen in recent history, the best since 2014.
"This season has been so exciting and we just want to keep going at this rate," said Adrian. "We just love our sport and there is so much we want to achieve."
It is obvious that Adrian has been one of the kick-starters that has ignited a fire for Rutgers, making a lasting impact with her top notch performances.
"It's very exciting [to be in this position], it's something I never thought would happen but I dreamed of it."
Though a newcomer, Adrian understands her part and has taken that as a chance, rather than something to live up to.
While nerves are a very normal part of an athlete's progression and competitive nature, Adrian does her best to brush that off and live in the moment that she is presented with.
"I've learned throughout the years that you can never really control the score," said Adrian. "Honestly, all I can do is take the opportunity for what it is and go and do the best gymnastics that I can. I'm just very grateful for the opportunity and to be able to help my team with the final scores."
Adrian is quickly becoming a face of this current Scarlet Knights team. She has taken on a responsibility that shows her skill, maturity, and grace as an athlete. Coming into this new experience and new team, she has earned her role with her dedication and undeniable talent.
"This is an honor. Every routine that I do I just see as an opportunity and as something that I want to take for what it is in the moment," said Adrian. "Just being able to do gymnastics, honestly, has made me very, very happy."
