Women's Basketball Drops Decision at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – The Rutgers women's basketball team (10-18, 2-15 B1G) dropped a 77-58 decision to Oregon (20-9, 10-7 B1G) on the road on Sunday.

Destiny Adams led the Scarlet Knights with 20 points and 10 rebounds for her 13th career double-double. Chyna Cornwell, JoJo Lacey and Mya Petticord also reached double digits, netting 10 points a piece. 



The score stayed close to start the game, with a pair of lead changes and seven ties. 

How it Happened 

  • Oregon got on the board first, but JoJo Lacey answered to start the game with a tie, 2-2. The Ducks scored on their next two possessions, but Destiny Adams and Lisa Thompson got to the rim to knot the score once again, 6-all. 
  • Oregon netted one more score before the 5:00 media timeout to take the 8-6 lead.  
  • Out of the stop, Adams hit a pair of shots at the line to even it up once again, 8-8. Chyna Cornwell followed up with an offensive rebound and put back to go ahead by two.  
  • Adams answered an Oregon field goal and both squads followed up with two more points each to keep RU in control, 14-12.  
  • Lacey hit her first three before the end of the opening 10 minutes and the Ducks recorded one more layup but the Scarlet Knights retained control, 17-14.  
  • Oregon hit the first bucket of the second period at 7:33 to put the game within one, 17-16. Mya Petticord scored a fast break layup to put RU back up, 19-16 but the opposition netted consecutive field goals to overtake the 20-19 edge and force a Rutgers timeout with 5:19 to play.  
  • The teams traded scores, with Adams and Petticord getting on the board, along with the lead until the two-minute mark, when Oregon scored five straight to regain the 29-24 advantage. 
  •  Adams netted two more shots at the charity stripe before the Ducks went on another five consecutive points to stay up, 34-26 and force a second timeout from RU just before halftime. The home team went into the locker room with the eight-point edge.  
  • Cornwell got things going in the second half with a three-point play. However, Oregon came back with an eight-point run to keep the 42-29 advantage.  
  • Adams broke up the stretch with a contested layup just before the 4:42 media timeout.  
  • Oregon added two more points out of the stop, but Adams hit a free throw followed by a deep ball from Petticord to put the contest back within single digits, 44-35.  
  • The Ducks cashed in on three free throws, but Lacey matched it with a three-pointer.  
  • The Scarlet Knights continued on to score five consecutive points, including a big three-point play from Chyna Cornwell to put the score within four points, 47-43.  
  • Oregon made four free throws to Rutgers's one to end the third quarter with the opponent still on top, 51-44. 
  • The Ducks kicked off the final 10 minutes with seven consecutive points to go back ahead double digits.  
  • Lisa Thompson hit a three to interrupt Oregon's offense, but they didn't slow down, adding seven more points to stay up, 65-47. The Scarlet Knights called their third timeout with 5:29 left in regulation. 
  • Both teams scored four points out of the break with under 3:30 to go, to keep the difference.  
  • The two teams continued to stay even, trading baskets. With under a minute to go, Adams reached 20 points and 10 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season.  
  • Rutgers ended the day with two free throws but Oregon ultimately came out on top, 77-58.  

Knights Notes  

  • Destiny Adams recorded her 13th double-double of the season and 21st of her career with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She has also reached double-digits in 24 games this season and in 15 of the last 16 games. The senior has also amassed nine 20+ point games. 
  • Adams also ended with three steals, her 14th outing of the season with three or more takeaways in a game. She paces RU with 69 overall grabs.  
  • JoJo Lacey ended with 10 points against the Ducks, her 15th outing of the slate with 10 or more points. She also hit two threes and has recorded at least one deep ball in the last five games. 
  • Chyna Cornwell (10) and Mya Petticord (10) also reached double figure points, the fifth time four Scarlet Knights have netted 10+ points.  
  • The contest features two lead changes and seven ties.  

Looking Ahead  

After almost a week off, Rutgers will finish out the 2024-25 regular season at Jersey Mike's Arena against Penn State on Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m.
