EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The No. 74 Rutgers women's tennis team (7-2, 1-0 B1G) defeated the Oregon Ducks (7-3, 0-1 B1G), 4-3 Friday afternoon.
"This was a great way to start out conference play," said head coach
Hilary Ritchie. "The players are putting in all the right focus and effort at practice, which really translated into their confidence today."
The Scarlet Knights won the doubles point, but quickly found themselves down 3-1. After winning the next two singles points,
Karina Jumazhanova sealed the deal.
"I always try to remember that the match isn't over until we shake hands," said Jumazhanova. "This really helps me fight to the end, all the way until the last point especially with my team around me."
Doubles
Jumazhanova and Lopez made quick work of their opponents winning 6-1 to give RU the advantage.

Mai Nguyen and Noami Karki then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win.
Singles
Oregon grabbed the first singles points putting the Scarlet Knights into a 3-1 hole, needing three straight wins to pull off the win.
Nguyen defeated her opponent in a marathon, taking the match 7-5, 7-5 to hold of elimination.
Jackie Lopez then won a back and forth thriller, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, to tie the dual.
With all eyes on Jumazhanova, she delivered match clinching win, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.

The Scarlet Knights will continue conference play when they travel to Indiana to take on a pair of Big Ten foes. RU will face the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday March 14 at 1 p.m. before traveling to Bloomington to battle the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday March 16 at 11 a.m.
