Women's Golf Earns Best-Ever Finish at Big Ten Championships

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. – Despite the addition of four powerhouse programs to the conference this season, Rutgers women's golf earned its best-ever finish at Big Ten Championships this weekend. The Scarlet Knights finished in 10th place overall out of 18 programs, including finishing ahead of a nationally-ranked Purdue squad and conference newcomers Washington.

Grace Lu led Rutgers on the leaderboard with a T19 finish, shooting 3-over for the tournament.

"This team has come together and improved their play in the last half of the season," head coach Kari Williams. "It was a lot of fun to coach them and see them play so well this weekend on the biggest stage and against the best teams we've faced all year."

Round 3 – Sunday, April 20
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temps in high 60s, 15-25mph winds

Lucrezia Rossettin closed out her final regular season event as a Scarlet Knight with the low round for the Scarlet Knights. She rolled in four birdies and shot a 1-over 73 to move up 10 spots and finish the tournament in a tie for 40th.

"Today's round was a nice way to close out my last Big Ten Championships," Rossettin said. "I tried to play aggressively and freely, and felt confident in my game today. Our course strategy changed with the different wind direction and that helped me on a few holes that were challenging the days before. Our team finish was amazing and I'm so proud of this group."

Grace Lu had the highest individual finish for RU, wrapping up the event T19 after a 3-over 75 on Sunday, including a birdie on 18.

Lorena Rossettin had a strong final round, shooting a 2-over 74 and moving inside the top 40 to finish in T37. Her final round featured three birdies.

Emily James had three birdies on Sunday and an eagle on the par-five 11th hole to help her shoot a 2-over 74 and finish in the event at T50.

Joline Truong finished in T68 after shooting a 5-over 77 in the final round.

Round 2 – Saturday, April 19
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temps in mid 70s, 10-20 mph winds

Grace Lu continues to lead the charge for RU on the individual end. She shot a 1-over 73 in her second round and is T9 at even-par 144 (71-73). She added another three birdies in her round and has nine for the tournament.

Lorena Rossettin matched Lu with a 1-over 73 on Saturday and is T42 for the tournament at 5-over 149 (76-73). Rossettin had a team-high four birdies in her round.

"While I wasn't as sharp off the tee as yesterday, my putting and short game kept me in the round today," Rossettin said. "As a group, we know we need to stay patient out on the course tomorrow and just play our games."

Lucrezia Rossettin is right behind at T50, sitting at 7-over 151 (73-78) for the tournament.

Emily James carded three birdies on Saturday and is T53 with an 8-over 152 (75-77) on the weekend.

Joline Truong rounds out the RU competitors at T61 on the leaderboard. She added two birdies on Saturday and is 9-over 153 (77-76) for the tournament.

"It was a solid day out on the course for us," head coach Kari Williams said. "We gave up a few shots on our last few holes but I saw good play throughout our round. We know we haven't yet played our best round as a team and are excited to have one more round out here tomorrow."

Round 1 – Friday, April 18
Weather: Partly Cloudy, Temps in low 60s, 10-20 mph winds

Grace Lu came out strong in her first-ever round at Big Tens, carding six birdies and finishing the day in a tie for fifth at 1-under 71.

"Today, I was able to stay in the present which really kept me grounded on each hole," Lu said. "I felt very committed to my shots and our strategy and that helped me navigate the course. We had a good day out at Bulle Rock and feel confident going into tomorrow.

Lucrezia Rossettin had a strong opening round, finished day one in a tie for 23rd. She rolled in three birdies, including back-to-back among her final five holes of the day, playing her back nine 1-under. She finished her round with a 1-over 73.

Emily James shot a 3-over 75 and is in a tie for 35th. She had back-to-back birdies on 7 and 8.

Lorena Rossettin picked up birdies on 1 and 6, shooting a 4-over 76 to sit in a tie for 47th.

Joline Truong rounded out the RU competitors with a 5-over 77, sitting in a tie for 59th.

As a team, RU's 15 birdies ranked third in the field.

"I'm proud of how the team played today," head coach Kari Williams said. "Conditions were tough with the wind picking up right after we started. They all battled hard and got themselves back on track after making bogeys. Grace and Lucrezia put together great rounds for us, and we'll come back out tomorrow ready to pick up where we left off."
