This is truly remarkable, especially since you’ve accomplished all this while also devoting countless hours each week to your academic and athletic pursuits.

And you are just as impressive in the classroom, as you are on the field and in the court. You have posted excellent marks this year, and a collective 3.36 GPA—equivalent to that of our overall student body. You embody excellence across all facets of your life.

I believe in each of you, and I know you’ll accomplish great things in the future.
Francine Conway, Ph.D. - Chancellor and Distinguished Professor, Rutgers University - New Brunswick

Graduating senior and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Thomas Mendyke of men’s lacrosse, along with NCAA Faculty Representatives Thomas Stephens, Ph.D., and Ann B. Gould, Ph.D. spoke to the graduating class before the evening’s keynote speaker, Brianne Reed. Reed, a 2016 Rutgers graduate, led Rutgers women’s soccer to four NCAA Tournaments, including the 2015 NCAA College Cup, and two Big Ten Championship games while earning First Team All-American and First All-Big Ten honors. Reed played professionally in the NWSL with FC Kansas City, overseas with several clubs in Sweden and Denmark, and with the Dominican Republic National Team.

No matter where you’re from or where you're going—this is always home. For me. For
you. For all of us. So go out there and crush it—but remember to come back to the Banks. There will always be a seat for you in the stadium, a spot for you on the sidelines, and a whole lot of love in the Scarlet community.

Brianne Reed, women's soccer alumna and Class of 2016, addresses the Rutgers student-athlete Class of 2025
What matters most is staying true to who you are and giving yourself the freedom to grow, change, and discover. Trust the process, trust yourself, and know that every step—whether it feels certain or uncertain—is shaping you into exactly who you’re meant to become.
Brianne Reed, Women's Soccer Class of 2016
