PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's golf had three student-athletes recognized by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday, as Bennett Espenshade, Argyle Downes and Derek Gutierrez were each named to the league's Preseason Golfers to Watch List ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Espenshade, Downes, and Gutierrez are key returners for head coach Rob Shutte's Scarlet Knights, who enter the fall with momentum after a strong finish last season.

• Espenshade, a steady contributor throughout the lineup, provided consistent scores for Rutgers and delivered multiple top-20 finishes a year ago.

• Downes, one of the team's top performers last spring, showed his potential with several rounds under par and emerged as a reliable presence in tournament play.

• Gutierrez, a veteran in the program, continues to bring leadership and experience while producing clutch rounds in Big Ten competition.

"We're excited to have Bennett, Argyle and Derek recognized by the conference," Shutte said. "All three have worked extremely hard, and they represent the depth and competitiveness we have within our team this season. Their recognition is a testament to the growth of our program and the culture we're building."

Rutgers begins its 2025-26 campaign at the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sept. 7, as the Scarlet Knights look to continue their ascent in the Big Ten and on the national stage.
