WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – Joschi Schelb's first half hat trick led the Rutgers men's soccer team (3-0-1) over William & Mary (0-2-1), 4-1, on Monday night. Â
Schelb netted three goals in under 22 minutes to give RU an early, decisive lead. William & Mary added their lone score of the night just before halftime to make it a 3-1 contest at the break.
Dan Karsten scored his second goal of the campaign in the 64th minute to solidify the victory.Â
Dalton was solid in goal, collecting six saves to bring him to 12 stops on the season so far.

- Schelb's hat trick is the first by a Scarlet Knight since Jason Wright scored three goals against FGCU on September 27, 2016 and the first in a win since 2015. It is also the first hat trick by any Big Ten player since 2023. Â
- Schelb has now scored five goals this season and 18 during his career. He has netted the first goal of play in the three most recent outings. Â
- The Freiburg, Germany native paces RU with 11 points, in addition to 14 shots and nine on frame. Â
- Karsten's goal marks his second of the season and eighth of his collegiate career. He also added an assist against the Tribe for five total points this season, second most on the squad. Â
- 10 of RU's 11 goals this season have come from newcomers. Devon Stopek is the lone returner to net a goal so far. Â
- RU scored 11 goals through the first four matches of the slate, the most since head coach Jim McElderry has been "On The Banks" and a high for the program since 2003 when the team netted 12. Â
- Rutgers has earned back-to-back four-goal games for the first time since 2022, when RU scored five versus UAlbany and four against Northwestern. Â
- Nick Collins's assist is the second of his career while Jansen's is his 16th overall.Â
- Ciaran Dalton made six saves in net on Monday to move up to 9th on the all-time career saves list with 183 stops.Â
- Dalton is the only Scarlet Knights to play all 90 minutes of all four matches this campaign. Â
- RU bested William & Mary in shots (17-10), shots on goal (11-8) and corners (8-7). Â
- Rutgers is now 1-0 all-time against W&M, picking up the win in the first meeting of the two teams. Â
