Women's Soccer Loses 1-0 at No. 4 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – Rutgers women's soccer dropped a tight 1-0 decision to No. 4 UCLA on Thursday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.

While the Scarlet Knights (3-2-4, 1-2-1) were able to keep the score tied at halftime, the Bruins (7-2-1, 3-0-1) found a breakthrough early in the second half and held on for the victory.

There was limited action in the first half, with UCLA registering the only shot on goal. Olivia Bodmer was up to the task, pushing the volley away for her first save of the night.

The Bruins kept the pressure on to start the second half, forcing an early Bodmer save before winning a free kick deep in RU's half. A curling left-footed shot found the bottom corner of the net to give the Bruins the 1-0 advantage.

The Scarlet Knights stayed in the fight, with Ashley Baran stealing possession and earning a free kick just outside the box. After a perfect delivery from Kennedi Cotter, Morgan Hippeli's header was denied on the doorstop and ultimately called back for a foul.

Bodmer stood tall in net all night, making five saves, her most since matching that total on Aug. 24 against Air Force.

Ultimately, RU was unable to break through the UCLA defense and could not find the equalizer, dropping the one-goal affair.

Rutgers wraps up its west coast swing against USC on Sunday afternoon, with the match set to air on the Big Ten Network at 4 p.m. ET.
