Women's Basketball Stopped by No. 7/7 Michigan

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's basketball team (9-10, 1-7 B1G) couldn't get past No. 7/7 Michigan (16-3, 7-1) on Thursday night, falling 94-60.
Faith Blackstone netted 21 points, going 9-for-10 from the field. Kaylah Ivey also added 15 points to join her in double figures.
Blackstone and Imani Lester paced the team with six rebounds.
How it Happened
- Both teams scored on their first possessions, but Faith Blackstone followed up with a contested bucket for four points and an early lead.
- Michigan responded with three scores in a row, however, to go up 8-4, with just under eight minutes to play.
- The opposition hit a three at the 6:13 mark, but Blackstone matched the points on the next possession.
- The Wolverines added two more deep shots, although Lauryn Swann and Janae Walker hit layups during the span as well. Michigan remained in front at the 4:14 media timeout, 17-11.
- UM came out of the stop with seven consecutive points, forcing a Rutgers timeout with 2:39 remaining, 24-11.
- Michigan continued to go on another 9-0 run until a driving layup from Blackstone. The opposition ended the quarter with five more points to take the 31-13 lead into the second period.
- The Wolverines started with a basket before three-pointers from both teams.
- However, Kaylah Ivey went on a 9-0 run on her own, hitting two more threes to close the gap, 36-22, with 6:30 to play.

- Michigan hit one layup before the 4:44 media timeout but stayed in front, 38-22.
- Imani Lester scored the first points out of the break at 3:05, netting two free throws. The opponent added five more points before the end of the half to bring the 43-24 edge into the locker room.
- The teams matched layups to start the third quarter. UM recorded two shots at the line before another Scarlet Knights timeout at 8:13.
- Swann came out of the pause with a big five points, including a shot from beyond the arc followed up by a steal and layup.

- Michigan added back-to-back threes despite a free throw from Antonia Bates and a put up from Nene Ndiaye. The opposition scored four more points before the 4:34 media timeout to keep the 57-34 advantage.
- In the final moments of the period, the Wolverines cashed in on eight shots at the charity stripe. But Nene Ndiaye and Ivey combined for five points to combat the scoring.
- UM outscored RU 4-1 in the final moments to bring the 69-39 lead into the final 10 minutes.
- Lester recorded the first points if the final quarter and Blackstone hit a three-point play, but Michigan netted three points in between. Nene Ndiaye continued a 7-0 run for RU.
- UM responded with six unanswered points but once again it was Blackstone who bounced back with her second three-point play of the quarter.
- The teams went onto trade buckets until the 3:25 media timeout, but Michigan kept control, 83-55.
- The opponent netted four out of the pause, but Ivey hit a three with just over two minutes to go.
- The teams traded possessions and shots at the line, but Michigan ultimately came out on top, 94-60.
Knights Notes
- With 21 points against the Wolverines, Faith Blackstone has now reached 10+ points in seven contests, including the last three games. She has also netted 20 or more points twice.
- Kaylah Ivey has reached double digits nine times. She also hit five threes, one shy of her career best. She has scored multiple deep shots in 13 outings this season.
