Tennis Wraps Up First Two Days at ITA Regionals

PRINCETON, N.J. ā Rutgers tennis wrapped the first two days of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Thursday and Friday at Princeton's Si Qin Family Tennis Center, earning three singles victories and three doubles wins through the first two days of action.Ā
"It was a very successful day on court," head coach Hilary Ritchie said. "All three singles players worked through some nerves and stepped up to close out their matches. The teams had great energy in doubles. That did a good job of putting pressure on their opponents with positing and pace."
In singles play, Savannah Cohen, Mischka Sinclaire Goenadi and Zuzanna Frankowska each picked up victories for the Scarlet Knights in the main draw. Cohen rallied past Villanova's Olivia Corcoran, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Goenadi earned a straight-set win over Temple's Irmak Ozturk, 6-3, 6-2. Frankowska also secured a straight-set victory, defeating Columbia's Emily Baek, 6-2, 6-4.Ā
Cohen and Frankowska will both face opponents from Penn State in the next round, with Cohen going up against Maelie MonfilsĀ and Frankowska meetingĀ Maria Daciana Ciubotaru. Goenadi will face Columbia's Margaret Hui as well.Ā
Rutgers also competed in doubles action, collecting three victories. Frankowska and Goenadi teamed up to defeat Lehigh's Lena Dogadalski and Claire Macedo, 8-3. Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker earned an 8-4 win over Saint Joseph's Younsoo Cho and Zora Koenig, while Miranda Case and Naomi Karki cruised to an 8-2 victory against Villanova's Olivia Kutlova and Corcoran.Ā
The pair of Frankowska and Goenadi will go onto play Lehigh's Elizabeth Tkachenko/ Varsha Vedula. Case and Karki will face off against Gayathri Krishnan/Sabrina Lin of Columbia. Jumazhanova and Ilker's opponent is still to be determined. Ā
