B1G COMEBACK! Softball Erases 8-Run Deficit To Take Series Finale 14-11 From Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rutgers softball overcame an eight-run deficit to fight back for a 14-11 series finale victory over Indiana on Sunday at Andy Mohr Field.
The blustery day saw eight home runs between both squads and four from the Scarlet Knights, including two from the bat of Sam Rohwer and Addie Osborne's two-run shot that gave RU the lead in the top of the sixth.
Indiana went out to an 8-0 lead after two innings, but Rutgers halved the Hoosier lead with four runs in the fourth and pulled within a run after a three-run fourth to trail 8-7. After Indiana added some cushion with two runs in the bottom half, the Scarlet Knights scored a trio of runs on four hits to knot the score at 10-10. In the sixth, Osborne cracked her sixth home run of the year in the sixth giving RU its first lead of the game at 12-10 and stay in front for the win.
The victory improved RU to 14-12 overall and 3-3 in Big Ten action.

Rutgers 13, Indiana 11
| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Rutgers swung for 15 hits and struck out only once. Five Scarlet Knights had a pair of hits each, including two home runs from junior Sam Rohwer and long balls by sophomore Addie Osborne and freshman Rachel Millan.
- Rohwer went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs. She now has a team-leading seven home runs on the season.
- Millan went 2-for-3 with her second home run of the year and three RBIs.
- Osborne finished 2-for-3 with a home run, her sixth of the season, and three runs scored.
- Sophomore Kelsey Hoekstra also delivered a pair of RBIs.
- The Scarlet Knights used a host of pitchers with Marley Caldwell getting the win for her first Scarlet Knights victory. She tossed 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

- The Hoosiers were able to load the bases and used back-to-back sac flies to center from Josie Bird and Madalyn Strader, an RBI double from Ellie Goins, and a two-run home run from Hannah Haberstroh to go out to a 5-0 lead.
- Back-to-back home runs extended Indiana's lead to 8-0. Aly VanBrandt knocked in two runs, going yard to left center and Alex Cooper followed to center.
- Rutgers halved its deficit in the top of the third. Addie Osborne walked and Charleigh Schuettler singled and both scored off Kelsey Hoekstra's double to the warning track. Next up was Sam Rohwer to hit the scoreboard for a solo shot and make it back-to-back games with a dinger. Rohwer's home run saw RU trail 8-4.

- The Scarlet Knights, who trailed 8-0 after two innings, pulled within a run by the middle of the fourth. Rohwer collected her second consecutive home run and third of the series with a two-run shot to left center. Riley Hwang walked, got into scoring position off a wild pitch and came home on a Rachel Millan single to left for RU to trail 8-7.

- Strader, however, gave the Hoosiers more cushion in the bottom half with the sixth home run of the day. Strader went deep to center for a pair of runs to push Indiana ahead 10-7.
- The Scarlet Knights rallied, though, in the top of the fifth to knot the score at 10-10 behind three runs on four hits. Singles by Bailey Briggs and Charleigh Schuettler had two on leading to an RBI single for Hailey Stripling, RBI ground out for Rohwer and RBI base hit from Riley Hwang.
- Addie Osborne delivered the lead to the Scarlet Knights in the sixth with RU's third home run of the game. Baileigh Burtis was aboard after a leadoff double as Osborne went over the fence in left center for a 12-10 Rutgers edge.

- Indiana pulled within a run in the bottom half. The bases were loaded for a Cassidy Kettleman sac fly for the hosts to trail 12-11.
- RU, however, added some breathing room with the eighth home run of the day and fourth for the Scarlet Knights in the seventh. Hwang was at first after being hit by a pitch and Rachel Millan followed with the long ball to right-center and the eventual14-11 margin.

- It was the largest comeback for the Scarlet Knights since trailing 17-9 to Michigan State and coming back for a 22-17 win back on April 4, 2015.

Rutgers softball is home for the first time in 2026 next week. The Scarlet Knights will play their first game at the newly upgraded Rutgers Softball Complex on Wednesday, Mar. 18, in a doubleheader with FDU at 3:30 p.m. RU will host No. 7 UCLA in the first Big Ten series at home. The Scarlet Knights will hold a pregame ceremony prior to first pitch with the Bruins on Saturday, Mar. 21, at 6 p.m., while the games on Sunday, Mar. 22, at 5 p.m. and Monday, Mar. 23, at 6 p.m. will be televised on BTN.
