
Tennis Downs Minnesota for First B1G Win

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Rutgers tennis team (8-6, 1-3 B1G) defeated Minnesota (10-9, 0-5 B1G) on Saturday afternoon, 4-2.
"What a terrific team win," head coach Hilary Ritchie said. "Each of our players fought until the end. We used the momentum from doubles to take an early lead in singles. I'm happy for Mai that she was able to clinch the match at home with a great crowd and atmosphere."
The victory is just the second all-time over the Gophers as the Scarlet Knights picked up a 4-3 win on April 21, 2024.
Doubles
Rutgers started off the day with a big doubles point, secured wins on the last two courts.
The pair of Naomi Karki and Stella Schmitz won their second consecutive Big Ten doubles match on the final court, 6-1. They are 2-2 on the spring so far.
Karina Jumazhanova and Zeynep Ilker also helped clinch the point with a 6-3 victory on the second court.
Singles
The Scarlet Knights fought and came out with three more points in singles to clinch the win.
Savannah Cohen continued her dominant play on the final court with a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-1. She is now 8-3 in dual play to pace RU.
Ilker followed up with another solid win on court No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. She teed up the clinch for Mai Nguyen on the first court, who fought to force a third set and come back for the win, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3.
