PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the second straight season, Rutgers gymnastics is going dancing.
The Scarlet Knights were officially selected to the 36-team field for the NCAA Championships on Monday afternoon. Rutgers will compete in the Lexington Regional, hosted by No. 16 Kentucky.=
With the selection, RU will be competing at NCAA Regionals for the second straight season, a feat last accomplished in 2006-07. Last season, the Scarlet Knights qualified for regionals for the first time since 2014.
"I'm very excited. I'm proud of this team," head coach Anastasia Candia said. "This was something we had our eyes set on after last season. Their hard work has really been shown to this point. There are lots of emotions, but excitement is definitely the first one."
RU will take on No. 31 Central Michigan in a dual meet on Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m., with the winner advancing to a quad against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 16 Kentucky and No. 18 Ohio State on Friday, April 3. The top two teams from that quad will compete in the regional final on Sunday.
