Scarlet Knights Fall 11-10 In Contest That Saw Four Lead Changes & A Seventh-Inning Surge Fall Short
MADISON, Wisc. – It was a back-and-forth battle on Friday night in the opening series between Rutgers and Wisconsin at Goodman Diamond.
After four lead changes, four Scarlet Knight home runs, including the team's eighth grand slam of the year from Baileigh Burtis and two in the top of the seventh to pull RU within a run of tying the ball game, it was the host Badgers taking an 11-10 game one win.
Rutgers came back from a four-run deficit to score six runs in the top of the fourth off a two-run single from Sam Rohwer and the four-run home run from Burtis to take a 6-4 edge.
The Scarlet Knights came back again in the top of the sixth. Trailing 7-6, Addie Osborne connected for a two-run home to put RU back on top.
Wisconsin plated four runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Rutgers entered its final at-bat down, 11-8.
Charleigh Schuettler and Rohwer both went yard in the top of the seventh, but the final Scarlet Knight surge fell short of continuing the contest.
During the game, RU set new school records for RBIs and runs scored in a season.
The loss dropped the Scarlet Knights to 26-26 on the year.
