Softball Drops Game Two At Wisconsin

MADISON, WISC. – Rutgers softball dropped game two of its final Big Ten weekend at Wisconsin on Saturday as the Badgers took a 10-5 win at Goodman Diamond.
After the Badgers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, Siera Hoekstra's second home run of the season in the top of the fourth saw the Scarlet Knights trail 7-5. Wisconsin, however, added a trio of insurance runs in its final at-bat in the sixth.
The loss dropped RU to 26-27 on the year.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Senior Siera Hoekstra launched RU's 71st home run of the season and her second of the year.
- Junior Sam Rohwer went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- Senior Bailey Briggs pinch hit for an RBI and junior Riley Hwang also pushed across a run.
- Also scoring for the Scarlet Knights were senior Mia Mitchell, freshman Charleigh Schuettler, redshirt sophomore Hailey Stripling and sophomore Jayla Fuller.
- Sophomore Kelsey Hoekstra fell to 7-7 on the year in the start. Junior Brooke Shifflett, sophomore Kassandra Gewecke and freshman Marley Caldwell also saw time in the circle.
| THE RUNDOWN |
- Wisconsin kicked off the game with six hits, including a pair of home runs from Emily Bojan and Kendra Lewis, for an early 5-0 lead after an inning of play.
- The Badgers loaded the bases and added a run on a sac fly from Kaylie Whidden in the second to go out to a 6-0 edge. Rutgers got out of the inning with a double play at the corners by Addie Osborne and Baileigh Burtis.
- Hailey Stripling was hit by a pitch and Sam Rohwer singled thru the left side to start off the third inning. Stripling put RU onto the scoreboard, scoring on a double down the left field line from Riley Hwang. The Scarlet Knights hoped to keep the momentum going with Addie Osborne's at-bat, but the Badgers were able to make the tag on Rohwer at the plate in time.
- The Badgers tacked on a run in the bottom half. A pair of doubles from Danielle Lucey and Hannah Conger pushed Wisconsin up 7-1.
- Rutgers cut into the Badger lead again with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth. The Scarlet Knights loaded the bases on a Mia Mitchell single to left and Charleigh Schuettler and Hailey Stripling walks. Pinch-hitter Bailey Briggs garnered the RBI on a fielder's choice. Schuettler was able to score on a bad throw by the Badger catcher in trying to stop her from advancing on a wild pitch. Rohwer was able to push across RU's third run of the inning with a single into right, scoring Jayla Fuller, who returned to the bases following Briggs' at-bat.
- The Scarlet Knights kept chopping away in the fifth as Siera Hoekstra captured a solo shot over the wall in right for RU to trail 7-5.

- Wisconsin, however, added some cushion in the sixth behind a two-run home run from Jackie Showalter and Lewis' second long ball of the game.
