Three Scarlet Knights to Compete at USA Swimming Speedo Junior National Championships

Emilianna Gonzalez, Journei Webster and Grace Sorensen in Action
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers swimming and diving will have three student-athletes in action this week in California at a high-level meet in California. Rising sophomore Emilianna Gonzalez and a pair of incoming freshmen in Journei Webster and Grace Sorensen will compete at the USA Swimming Toyota National Championships. The event will be held in Irvine, California at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
Both Gonzalez and Webster were previously slated to compete in California during last week's Senior Nationals event, but travel delays prevented the duo from attending, registering for this meet in its place.
Gonzalez will compete in four events. She is in the 50 Free (Friday), 100 Free (Tuesday), 50 Fly (Thursday) and 50 Breast (Tuesday).
Webster will compete in four events. She will compete in the 50 Back (Monday), 50 Fly (Thursday), 50 Free (Friday) and 100 Free (Tuesday).
Sorensen will compete in just one event. She is entered in the 200 Butterfly. That event takes place on the first day, with prelims beginning at noon Eastern time on Monday.
A product of New York, N.Y., Gonzalez had a strong freshman campaign 'On the Banks' this past season. A C Finalist in the Big Ten Championships in the 50 Free, she has the third fastest time in program history in the 50 Free, swimming a 22.40 in the USA Winter Junior Nationals. She won the 50 Free at three separate events during the season and was named the Big Ten Swimmer and Freshman of the Week after the meet at Princeton.
Webster is set to join the Scarlet Knights for the fall out of Ewa Beach in Hawaii. A four-star recruit and top-150 recruit in the country, she was the No. 1 ranked swimmer in the state of Hawaii. A USA Nationals Qualifier, she was a five-time NISCA All-American.
Sorensen comes to RU from Bellingham, Washington. A three-star and top-200 recruit, she was a US National and Junior Nationals Qualifier.
