Espenshade Leads RU with 6th Place Finish at Canadian Collegiate

RU Finishes Tied for 5th Overall
MacTier, Ontario ā Junior Bennett Espenshade closed out a standout week at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, finishing 2-under-par for the tournament to place sixth individually and lead Rutgers to a tie for fifth as a team in the 13-team field at Oviinbyrd Golf Club.
The Rutgers junior opened with a bogey-free 4-under 68 to take the outright first-round lead, backed it up with a 2-under 70 in round two to sit third through 36 holes, and closed with a 76 on Tuesday to finish at 2-under 214 for the tournament.
He was one of just six players in the entire field to finish under par, capping a week in which he was in the mix for the individual title from start to finish.
New Mexico's Johnnie Clark won the individual title at 6-under, with Santa Clara's Emil Nielsen (-5) and Missouri's Veikka Viskari (-4) rounding out the top three. Espenshade finished two shots back of the top four, tied for sixth.
As a team, Rutgers carded rounds of +5, +10 and +10 to finish at +25, tying Missouri for fifth and moving up a spot in the final round. New Mexico ran away with the team title at -5, followed by Notre Dame (+5), Santa Clara (+12) and Mississippi State (+19).
