Rossettin Cards Top-25 Finish for Women’s Golf at Loaded Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior Lorena Rossettin produced a top-25 individual finish in her return from injury to highlight action for Rutgers women's golf at a loaded Cougar Classic on Tuesday.
Competing in her first varsity tournament in more than 15 months, Rossettin closed her fall debut with back-to-back 2-under-par 69s to finish tied for 22nd in the 96-player field. Her week at Yeamans Hall Club was fueled by consecutive six-birdie rounds to close out play, with her 13 total birdies tying for fourth in the tournament.
Rossettin was one of just 16 competitors in the field to card two or more rounds under par.
As a team, RU moved up two positions to finish 14th out of 18 teams, placing ahead of Big Ten foe Wisconsin. The competitive field featured two top-10 teams (No. 4 Florida and No. 5 Arkansas), 10 top-50 programs, 11 teams that competed in last year's NCAA Regionals, and five that reached the NCAA Championships.
The Gators captured the team title with a 16-under-par 836 (283-276-277), followed by No. 21 Tennessee (-6) and No. 26 Baylor (-5). Florida's Jessica Guiser won the individual title with a six-under-par 207 (70-67-70).
"This was a nice showing for us," said head coach Kari Williams. "We bounced back after a sluggish opening 18 and fought hard to climb the leaderboard in rounds two and three. Yeamans Hall is an incredible golf course that has a steep learning curve, and we did well amongst these teams that have years of experience at this event. Putting and course management were our points of emphasis heading into the tournament and I thought we improved from last week."
Junior Joline Truong added an impressive even-par 71 in the final round, closing tied for second with 41 pars across her 54 holes of play. Classmate Judy Amano was one of five players in the field to record an eagle, holing out on the par-5 fourth hole.
ROUND 3 - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8

Despite dealing with less-than-ideal wind conditions, Rutgers navigated a challenging course to move up two spots to 14th on the team leaderboard. Its four-over-par 288 was the 11th-lowest of the day and ahead of three ranked programs – No. 20 UCF (+5), No. 41 NC State (+8) and No. 33 LSU (+13).
Rossettin continued her strong play from Monday's second round, carding a two-under-par 69 in her final 18 holes. Her performance included four consecutive birdies from holes No. 10 through No. 13 along with birdies on holes six and eight. Her under-par round was just one of 22 on the day, helping her jump 14 spots to tie for 22nd.
Truong also made a strong move up the leaderboard on Tuesday, adding an even-par 71. Her performance included two birdies and 14 pars.
Amano and senior Emily James carded three-over-par 74s, with Amano adding three birdies to finish with seven at the classic. Redshirt senior Grace Lu added a birdie on hole 17 to highlight her play in the final round.

Scores improved for Rutgers, as the Scarlet Knights finished with the eighth-lowest second-round score (+3). Rossettin collected a two-under-par 69, adding a team-best six birdies, which included four over her final 13 holes.
Lu and Truong both recorded one-over-par 72s, with Lu tallying four birdies while Truong added a round-best 15 pars. Amano and James contributed three-over-par 74s.

Amano produced the top opening round for Rutgers, coming in with a two-over-par 73. She delivered a birdie on the 12th hole and added an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. James carded a four-over-par 75, delivering a team-high four birdies for the Scarlet Knights in round one.
Rossettin and Truong contributed five-over-par 76s, while Lu finished with a seven-over-par 78. Lu produced three birdies during the morning session.
