Here are answers to frequently asked questions about the Rutgers Cheerleading Team. If you have any questions not addressed below, please email us.
How to start the recruitment process:
- Submit a recruitment video through the portal: Cheerleaders submit a video. If a cheerleader is selected for the team, he or she is offered a position on the roster.
- Attend a clinic: Various college prep clinics will be held throughout the year. It is encouraged for potential recruits to attend as it's a good opportunity to learn more about our team and university, showcase your skills, and interact with the coaches and current team members.
- Recruitment Next Steps:
- After a cheerleader has been identified as a potential team member, here are the next steps:
- Applicants will be asked to attend an invite clinic/evaluation in person.
- Please note that until a cheerleader has received an offer from the head coach, nothing is binding.
- Everything is also dependent on the cheerleader's academic acceptance to Rutgers.
- We are a large coed team. The partner stunts we perform consist of one base and one top person/flyer. For tops/flyers we are looking for strong body control and awareness. Bases we look for overall athleticism and the willingness to take and apply corrections. For females, we require a standing tuck and we are looking for running tumbling through a full. For males, no tumbling is required.full.
- Team members are only offered a spot for a given year, and all returning cheerleaders will be evaluated in person at the end of the spring semester.
- As students receive their academic acceptances to Rutgers, positions will be offered on the team. This process can go all the way through decision day on May 1st. We encourage you to complete your recruitment form and Rutgers University application as soon as they are available for that given year.
