Franco Castro enters his second year as an assistant coach for the Rutgers men's golf program after he was hired on Sept. 29, 2018. Castro, who played collegiately at both Charlotte and LSU, is a two-time all-conference selection and also brings coaching experience with him to the program.
After competing for two seasons at LSU from 2010-12, Castro made an immediate impact at Charlotte during his final two collegiate campaigns. The Alpharetta, Georgia, native was an All-Atlantic 10 selection as a junior in 2012-13 and was named to the All-Conference USA First Team as a senior in 2013-14. That season, Castro qualified for the NCAA Raleigh Regional after he finished with a 72.56 stroke average.
Prior to his arrival at Rutgers, Castro started Castro Golf Consulting, an instructional company dedicated to player development in both the Charlotte and Atlanta areas. Castro also has instructional experience mentoring young players at camps held at Charlotte and Georgia Tech.
Castro comes from a family with a strong golf background. His brother, Roberto, competed at Georgia Tech and currently plays on the PGA Tour, where Franco has helped Roberto as his caddy. Castro's aunt, Jenny Lidback, competed on the LPGA Tour and played professionally from 1989-2003. Lidback was inducted into the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
