Lauren Marinez

Lauren Marinez

Lauren Marinez is in her first season on the Rutgers gymnastics staff. A native of Orlando, Florida, Marinez will serve as the volunteer assistant coach for the Scarlet Knights.

“We are thrilled to have Lauren working with us this year,” Salim-Beasley said. “Coming from Michigan, she knows what it takes to be a part of a winning Big Ten Championships team. Her experiences will help us to build our program into a Big Ten contender. Lauren’s primary responsibilities will be with strengthening beam and floor choreography. She will also assist on all events and with recruiting throughout the year. We are excited to see what Lauren will add to our program!”

“I am really excited to be here and to help build this Rutgers program,” Marinez said. “I look forward to learning all that I can from this staff, as well as these athletes, and I can't wait to see what this experience will bring.”

Marinez was a four-year letterwinner for the Wolverines from 2015-18 and helped the team win the Big Ten Championships each season. As a senior, she placed first on balance beam with a 9.900 to win the conference event title and take a spot on the Big Ten All-Championships Team. Marinez earned All-Big Ten Second Team twice, competing on uneven bars (9.925 career high), balance beam (9.950) and floor exercise (9.900), with 11 career routines of 9.900 or better.

In addition, she was named a NSCA All-American in 2017 for her work in strength and conditioning and garnered the team's Most Improved Award.

Marinez spent last season as the head coach for the Ann Arbor High School gymnastics team. She started her coaching career working with athletes at Michigan gymnastics camps all four summers of college.

Marinez graduated from the University of Michigan with a general studies degree in April 2018.
