    Volunteer Assistant Coach - Sprints
Joe Porter enters his second season a volunteer sprints coach, assisting Bobby Farrell. Porter, a Summit, New Jersey native, returns to his alma mater as an alum of the Rutgers track and field and football programs.
 
Porter career “On the Banks” from 2003-07 was highlighted by the 2005 BIG EAST Outdoor Conference title for the Scarlet Knights. The title was the first in program history and earned the 2004-05 squad an induction into the Rutgers Hall of Fame. The historic team also claimed the indoor and outdoor IC4A Championship titles that record-breaking year. The sprinter collected six BIG EAST titles, four relay and two 200m, and two IC4A relay titles on the track.
 
Additionally, Porter contributed to three school records during his career, including the indoor 4x200m relay and the outdoor 4x100m and 4x200 relays.  All three records stand to this day, while his indoor 60m time of 6.83 remains third all-time.
 
Also a standout on the gridiron, Porter was a four-year letterwinner on the Rutgers football team from 2003-06 under head coach Greg Schiano. Porter played in 35 career games at defensive back during his collegiate career and helped the Scarlet Knights to a 37-10 victory over Kansas State in the Texas Bowl, the first bowl championship in school history. After college, Porter played five seasons in the NFL with New Orleans (2007), Green Bay (2007-08), Cleveland (2009) and Oakland (2010-11).
 
A history teacher at West Windsor Plainsboro High School South, Porter currently coaches the Pirates’ track & field and football teams. His coaching career began at his alma mater Franklin High School, where he developed a strong Warriors sprint program with three State Championships, several New Jersey sectional titles, sprint state records and Meet of Champion winners.

Additionally, Porter remains active in the community, presently volunteering for Urban Revival and CBC Thanksgiving food deliveries. He is a director of yearly mission trips as well.
 
Porter graduated from Rutgers in 2007 with a B.A. in sociology and minor in labor studies.
