Matt Fishman

Matt Fishman enters his second season as as the Coordinator of Olympic Sports for Rutgers volleyball and women's rowing, as well as assisting the the Rutgers Leadership Academy.

Set to oversee the day-to-day operations of the volleyball program, Fishman holds a strong background in the sport at the collegiate, high school and club levels of play. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach of the volleyball program at Indiana University–Kokomo.  The Cougars of IUK completed their 2016 campaign as Conference Tournament Champions and earned a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, for the first time in program history.

Before his stint at IU Kokomo, Fishman served as the Carmel High School head coach for the 2015 season. He led the Carmel volleyball team to a 21-12 record. Prior to his head coach position, Fishman was a volunteer assistant coach for the Indiana University-Bloomington volleyball team. His daily duties included on-campus recruiting, opponent scouting reports, video breakdown and creating practice and clinic plans throughout the year. 

Fishman assisted the Hoosiers in earning three invitational titles, nine All-Tournament Team accolades, and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week recognition. While Fishman coached in Bloomington, the Hoosiers became one of only three teams in Big Ten history to go from one conference win to six the following season. Moreover, the Hoosiers had their first Big Ten Conference road sweep since 2010. 

Before beginning a coaching career in 2009 at North Central High School, Fishman had a successful volleyball career as a four-year setter for the Bowling Green State University Division I AA Men’s Team. While playing for Bowling Green, he studied telecommunications with a focus in production. Fishman was a charter member of the Carmel High School men’s volleyball program before playing at the collegiate level. 

During his time in Indiana, Fishman also coached for Munciana Volleyball Club while working as a full time Media Director for the Indy Juniors VBC.  Matt’s pre-collegiate experience culminated with a 3A State Championship and 4A Regional Title at Bishop Chatard High School as a varsity assistant. In addition, he earned a fifth place finish at the AAU National Championships as an assistant coach with the 14 Open Municana Chipmunks. 

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Fishman resides in New Brunswick, NJ with his wife Jennifer.
