Carolyn Groff joined Rutgers Athletics in 2024 where she works as a Learning Specialist for student-athletes within the Academic Services department.
Previously, Carolyn worked at Monmouth University, where she was an Associate Professor of Literacy Education and Department Chair. With her colleagues, she has published in the fields of reading fluency, reading self-efficacy, and teacher education. After retiring from Monmouth, she worked with graduate students in cultural anthropology at the University of Basel in Switzerland.
A West Hartford, Connecticut native, Carolyn began her career as a fifth-grade teacher in the tidewater area of Virginia. Groff earned a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and a Ph.D. in Literacy and Language Education from Rutgers. While pursuing her Ph.D. at Rutgers, she worked as a graduate student tutor for the student-athletes in the football program, returning to Rutgers over two decades later to again work with Rutgers student-athletes.
