Evan Mager begins his first season as an assistant coach with Rutgers women's lacrosse in 2025-26. Mager arrived 'On the Banks' from Rider, where he served as the program's first-ever head coach when the Broncs began competition in 2024.
Mager works primarily with the defense and goalies, and also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.
"I am beyond excited for the opportunity to coach at Rutgers," Mager said. "The program competes at the highest level of women's lacrosse, and I am truly grateful to Coach Lehman for this opportunity. It is a chance to return to New Jersey to be with my family and be a part of an incredible team. I am thrilled to be a part of such a talented staff and cannot wait to get to work."
Mager spent the past three years at Rider, where he was named the women's lacrosse head coach in October of 2022. Mager became the first coach in the history of the program, which began competition in the spring of 2024.
With Mager at the helm, the Broncs posted back-to-back eight-win seasons, reaching the MAAC Tournament quarterfinals in 2025. Attacker Katie Walsh earned First Team All-MAAC laurels after setting program records with 54 goals and 114 draw controls, while Marissa Ross and Elizabeth Shean also earned all-conference accolades.
Mager arrived at Rider from FDU-Florham, where he produced a 34-7 record during his three seasons as head coach of the women's lacrosse program. In 2021, the Devils posted an undefeated 16-0 regular season and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Mager was named MAC Freedom Coach of the Year and IWLCA Boardwalk Region Coach of the Year that season.
Prior to FDU, Mager served as the head coach at Morristown High School, where he accumulated 103 career wins and a Morris County Championship in 2018. Twenty-six of his players reached the collegiate level, including 12 at Division I programs.
A graduate of FDU-Florham, Mager lettered for the Devils' men's lacrosse team, where he saw time in the midfield and at goalie. During his collegiate career, Mager was named the Andrew Helgeson Memorial Award winner, which is awarded to the player with the most dedication and commitment to the team.
