Ryan Cabiles joined the Rutgers Athletic staff in May 2026. He comes "On The Banks" after serving as the director of strength and conditioning for Syracuse men's (18 seasons) and women's basketball (16 seasons). He helped the teams to a combined three Final Four appearances as well as 16 NBA and five WNBA Draft picks. He began his career at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he worked as a student athletic trainer from 1996-98. He earned his bachelor's degree in sports injury management in 1998 before serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the men's basketball and tennis teams from 1999-2000.
Cabiles brings professional experience to the court as well, as he spent seven years with the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers organization, while also doubling his duties as head strength coach for the original Portland Fire from 2000-02. Cabiles additionally worked as a tester for the NBA Pre-Draft Combines in Orlando and Chicago and served as the Houston Rockets' Assistant Summer League Strength Coach in 2025.
Before joining Syracuse, Cabiles spent six years as the head strength and conditioning coach at Portland.
Cabiles is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association earning the honor of Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach Emeritus (RSCC*E) in February of 2025. He is also TPI Level 1 Certified through the Titleist Performance Institute.
He and his wife, Kara, have two children, Kendall and Peyton.
