Thomas J. Speedling moved into an assistant coach role for the swimming and diving program ahead of the 2025-26 season.

A coach from 2004-2010 for USA Swimming National Team, Speedling trained multiple world-class swimmers, ranging from a six-time NCAA champion to an Olympic medalist. Speedling's influence extended across national borders as well, as the longtime coach helped groom Canadian record holder Stefan Hirniak. The College of Staten Island and City University of New York graduate also coached five New Jersey state record holders who combined for a total of 26 records.

The American Swimming Coaches Association member spent the past 10 years as the head coach of the Scarlet Aquatic Club, coordinating training groups, implementing training regiments and maintaining the budget for a 170-member program. Prior to his head coaching stint, Speedling spent eight years as a full-time assistant at the Scarlet Aquatic Club.

His coaching career began in 1993 at the Village Greens Swim Club, where the Hopewell, N.J. resident got his first experience as a head coach. Speedling made the leap to high school swimming a year later, serving as the head varsity swimming coach at Moore Catholic (N.Y.) from 1994-2002.
