Stephanie Mamakas enters her eighth year with Athletic Communications in 2021-22 after joining the staff in January 2015. She serves as the primary contact for the Scarlet Knights' nationally-ranked women's soccer team as well as RU's cross country, gymnastics, track & field and women's tennis programs. She is also a secondary sport administrator for Rutgers Athletics, working directly with the men's golf program.
Mamakas led coverage of the women’s soccer team’s Big Ten title, the first for the program and Rutgers overall, and College Cup appearance in Fall of 2021. As manager of the team's social accounts, she doubled the follower count on Instagram to over 12K. Across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, the fall 2021 season garnered over 10 million impressions on social media.
As host of the 2015 and 2021 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournaments, Mamakas served as the primary communications lead and media contact for the tournament. Mamakas has also hosted numerous preliminary rounds of the NCAA Tournament, as the women’s soccer team has qualified for five straight seasons under her tenure with the program. The Scarlet Knights hosted all preliminary rounds as the No. 1 seed of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, playing on their home field all the way up to the College Cup.
A 2015 graduate of the State University of New Jersey, Mamakas graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in sport management and minor in digital communication, information and media. She worked as an intern in the Rutgers Athletic Communications Office for four years, aiding as the sports information contact for volleyball, swimming and diving, and tennis as a student.
Throughout her time on the Rutgers Athletic Communications staff, Mamakas has worked with various programs. She served as a secondary contact for the women’s basketball team, as well as stints with softball, women’s swimming & diving, and women’s volleyball.
During her time as an Athletic Communication Intern, Mamakas' role continuously expanded to include working as the media contact for the Rutgers gymnastics team at the 2014 NCAA Regional, writing feature stories for both the football and basketball game day programs, as well as, designing and editing media guides for both the men's and women's golf programs. She later became the primary contact for a number of RU's Olympic sports in acting as a liaison between the coaching staffs and student-athletes with the media and promoting the Scarlet Knights across multiple platforms, including ScarletKnights.com and social media.
Before joining the Athletic Communications Office, the Old Bridge, N.J., native was the Vice President of the Rutgers Athletics Student Marketing Organization, also known as the Rutgers Riot Squad. During her time with the organization, she helped raise awareness of Scarlet Knight athletic events across campus through social media and on-site promotion, as well as promoting membership to the group during its start up.
Mamakas also spent a year as a recruiting assistant with the Rutgers football program, where she facilitated campus tours for recruits and guests and managed registration and event set-up for numerous football events, including summer and training camps. Additionally, Mamakas spent two summers working as a member of the game night staff for the New York Liberty, assisting the Madison Square Garden staff in the WNBA franchise's media game day operations.
