Lloyd Named Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week
Oct 08 | Women's Soccer
Lloyd, a midfielder, scored both game-winning goals in a pair of must-win situations for the Scarlet Knights last week. The all-American, who has been bothered by a left-foot injury, came off the bench with 7:20 to play in regulation and scored with 3:04 to play in overtime in RU’s 1-0 victory against Seton Hall Oct. 2. Against Georgetown Oct. 5, Lloyd scored 1:13 after she substituted into the match to even the score, then converted a penalty kick in the 47th minute to lead RU to a 4-2 win. Just 12 matches into her sophomore season, Lloyd now is tied for fifth in game-winning goals (seven), tied for sixth in goals (23) and seventh in points (57) on the Rutgers career charts.
She shared the weekly honor with Connecticut’s Kristen Graczyk.
Lloyd also was the BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 16 after collecting two goals and two assists in Rutgers’ pair of 3-0 victories against Boston University (Sept. 13) and Old Dominion (Sept. 15).
Last year, Lloyd twice was named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week (Sept. 3, Oct. 8), and current senior Christine Caldwell (Wyckoff, NJ) was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week once (Oct. 22).
The 2002 BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Lloyd was named to the Soccerbuzz 2002 Preseason All-America Elite 12 Team.
The Scarlet Knights (7-3-2) will play at No. 18 Princeton Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. before hosting No. 8 Connecticut Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m.
