Dec 03 | Men's Soccer
El Bialy started 18 of 19 games in 2002, missing just one match due to a mild concussion. He posted four goals and three assists from the midfield, including a two-goal effort in a 5-0 win over Villanova (Sept. 25). He also added two assists in a 3-2, OT win vs. ODU (Oct. 6) and registered a goal and assist in a 5-2 win vs. Monmouth (Oct. 17). El Bialy was a first team all-region pick in 2001.
Abrahamson started all 19 matches for the Scarlet Knights, leading a defense that allowed just 24 goals in 19 matches. He scored his lone goal of the season vs. Villanova (Sept. 25) and added assists vs. ODU (Oct. 6) and Monmouth (Oct. 17). Abrahamson is a three-time all-region selection and earned Second Team All-America status in 2001 as well.
Karcz, who finished second on the team in scoring with 15 points (6g, 3a), earned third team honors. He struck for a goal and an assist in RU’s BIG EAST opening 3-0 win at Providence (Sept. 7) and scored the game-tying goal in a 3-2, OT win vs. ODU (Oct. 6). Karcz then added two goals in a 5-2 win vs. Monmouth (Oct. 17) and scored in back-to-back wins vs. Pittsburgh (Oct. 26) and Princeton (Oct. 30). He also set up the lone goal in a 1-0 win over West Virginia on Nov. 2, which clinched RU’s spot in the BIG EAST Championship.
Rutgers posted an 8-8-3 overall mark, including a 5-4-1 mark in BE play. Tied for fourth and seeded fifth in the BIG EAST Tournament, RU’s season ended with a 1-0 loss to Connecticut in the quarterfinals on Nov. 9.
