Rutgers Defeats Delaware 2-0
Sep 08 | Women's Soccer
“We showed much more composure today (than Sept. 6), particularly in the second half,” third-year Rutgers head coach Glenn Crooks said. “Overall, the second half was much better, even though we scored both of our goals in the first half, in terms of the way we want to play offensively and defensively.”
Freshman Danae Risoli (Hillsborough, NJ) got Rutgers on the board in the 18th minute when classmate Kelly Evans (Saddle Brook, NJ) delivered a ball from the right side to the far post, allowing Risoli to punch it in just 16 seconds after substituting into the match. For Risoli and Evans, the goal and assist were the first points of their collegiate careers. Sophomore all-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) made the score 2-0 in the 31st minute when she dodged through traffic to send a blast from the top of the box. For Lloyd, it was her third goal of the season and 18th of her career, moving her into 10th place on the RU career points chart (44).
Senior Christine Caldwell (Wyckoff, NJ) made four saves for her first victory of the season (1-1-1).
RU was ranked 21st by Soccerbuzz and tied for 25th by SoccerTimes.com in the groups’ national polls (Sept. 2). Rutgers also was rated third by Soccerbuzz and sixth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in the Mid-Atlantic Region this week.
The Scarlet Knights will host the Rutgers DoubleTree Classic next weekend, playing Boston University Friday, Sept. 13, at 8:00 p.m. and Old Dominion Sunday, Sept. 15, at 12:00 p.m.
