RU Men's Soccer Adds Two Recruits

PISCATAWAY, NJ – After signing 14 players in early February – his largest and deepest recruiting class at Rutgers – head men’s soccer coach Bob Reasso has added two more talented players in New Jersey native Nick LaBrocca (Howell, NJ) and Joe Donoho (Tampa, FL). Rutgers has now received commitments from 16 players, all of whom will attend Rutgers and begin playing soccer in the fall.
LaBrocca played scholastically at Christian Brothers Academy, where he served as team captain in 2002, guiding the team to a Parochial A State Championship. He started 67 consecutive games in the midfield for CBA and played in three-straight Parochial A State Championship games – winning titles in 2000 and 2002. As a senior, he registered five goals and 20 assists, helping CBA to a 19-3 record and a No. 5 ranking in The Star Ledger Top 20 poll. He earned First Team All-State honors by the Ledger and Associated Press and was the 2002 Shore Conference Player of the Year. A three-time First Team All-League selection, he also played club ball with Matchfit Academy Crew, which won the 2002 NJ State Cup Championship.
LaBrocca is the second NJ First Team All-State pick to sign with Rutgers, joining goalkeeper Lubos Ancin.
“We are delighted that Nick is coming to Rutgers,” said Reasso. “He is a very technical player who is an outstanding passer of the ball. He is a player that we can play through in the midfield and he can turn that possession into chances for us. He should have an immediate impact on our program.”
Donoho played basketball on the scholastic level, as soccer and basketball seasons ran concurrently in Tampa, FL. His club experience, however, is outstanding. Donoho played with the Tampa Bay Kickers, which won the 2002 State Championship in four of the last five seasons. Over the past four seasons, Donoho has played four different positions with the Kickers, including forward, center-midfield, sweeper and marking back. He also played football and was a two-year starter on the basketball team. He averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists a game as a senior and was a second team All-Area pick. He also played in the Tampa Bay All-Star Game following the season.
“Joe is an exceptional three sport athlete,” said Reasso. “Our goal for recruiting this year was to get bigger, stronger and faster and Joe fits all those areas very well. He will compete for time at the center back position right away.”
