GAINESVILLE, FL – The Rutgers women’s volleyball
team (0-2) opened the season with two losses at the Gator Invitational on Aug.
29. The Scarlet Knights fell to host No. 3 Florida, 30-16, 30-21 and 30-21,
in their first match of the tournament. They returned in the evening to face
BYU and fell to the Cougars 30-25, 30-26, and 30-18.
In the opener against Florida, senior Shayla Bush (Spokane, WA) and junior
Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) led the Scarlet Knights with eight
kills apiece, while junior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) added a team-high 26 assists.
Bush also led the team with eight digs.
Christjaener once again led the Knights in kills against BYU with 10 and Martin
followed up her performance in the first match with 22 more assists. Bush matched
her total from the earlier match to lead the team with eight digs.
The Knights look to bounce back against American University Saturday, Aug.
30, at 1:30 p.m. in their final match of the tournament.
