RU Women's Soccer Falls to Iowa at UK Invitational

LEXINGTON, KY - The Rutgers women's soccer team (3-2) lost a tough 2-1 decision to Iowa (2-3) Sept. 12 at the Kentucky Invitational.
The Hawkeyes got on the board first when they scored on a rebound off the crossbar in the 19th minute. Rutgers evened the match up four minutes later, as junior All-American Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) knocked in the rebound of Zoe Avner's (Paris, France) shot. However, Iowa regained the lead 10 minutes into the second half on a breakaway. Freshman Robyn Jones (Titusviile, NJ) made two saves in the loss (2-2).
"We probably gave up three good scoring opportunities, but they tucked two of those into the net," fourth-year head coach Glenn Crooks said. "I thought that we possessed the ball very well in the beginning, and we outshot them 7-1 in the first half. They got the go-ahead goal and we had some great opportunities to even it up, but we couldn't capitalize."
Rutgers was ranked tied for fifth by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and sixth by Soccerbuzz in the Mid-Atlantic Region this week (Sept. 8).
Rutgers will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when the Scarlet Knights take on No. 14 Kentucky at the UK Invitational at 7:30 p.m. Live stats will be available at http://ukathletics.ocsn.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/091003aab.html.
