PISCATAWAY, NJ - Three members of the Rutgers men's
lacrosse team have been named to the ECAC All-Academic team, the league office
has announced.
Senior Matt Apel (Bridgewater, NJ), junior Leif Blomquist (Long Beach, NY)
and junior Anthony Sicoli (Kinnelon, NJ) were recognized for having a cumulative
grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and being a significant contributor to
their team's success.
Apel started 10 games last season for Rutgers and was seventh on the team
with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists). In three seasons, Apel has 13 career
goals and 17 career assists.
Blomquist started all 15 games for RU in 2003, notching 10 goals and 19 assists
and was sixth on the team with 29 points.
Sicoli had 38 groundballs while playing in all 15 games.
Under the direction of ECAC and National Coach of the Year Jim Stagnitta,
Rutgers fashioned the most dramatic turnaround in the nation last year, going
10-5 and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
