Men’s Lacrosse Alumns in the PLL: 2025 Season Wrapup

Rexrode Wins Title, 10 Alumns See Game Action

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – 10 Rutgers men's lacrosse alumns saw action during the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League season. Michael Rexrode led the Atlas to a title while nine other alumns excelled during the league's summer campaign.

Rutgers' 10 alumns placed them top-five in the NCAA and top-two in the Big Ten for the most representation in the PLL this season, trailing just Maryland in the Big Ten, along with Notre Dame, Duke and Denver.

Rutgers Alumns in the PLL:

New York Atlas: Michael Rexrode

Rexrode excelled as a starting defensemen for the NY Atlas who won the 2025 PLL Championship Game, in which Rexrode had three ground balls and his first professional assist in a 14-13 win over the Denver Outlaws. Rexrode played in 10 games during the regular season and had 14 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. The season and his first title marked the conclusion of his fifth season with the Atlas and eighth pro season overall for the 2018 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner.

Maryland Whipsnakes: Joe Nardella

Nardella excelled at the faceoff 'X' in his sixth season with the Whipsnakes and his 11th pro season overall. The won 141-of-241 faceoffs for a winning percentage of 59.8% (third in the league), also scooping 58 ground balls (fifth in the league) and scoring two goals. Nardella was named the 2025 Dave Huntley Sportsmanship Award winner at the league's annual awards ceremony.

Carolina Chaos: Jules Heningburg, Shane KnoblochRoss Scott, Adam Charalambides

A pro since 2018, Heninburg played for his third different PLL squad this season, signing midseason with the Cannons. He scored one one-point goal, one two-point goal and had one assist for a four-point season.

A second-year pro and former First Round draft pick, Knobloch was limited to four games this season due to injury. In those four games, Knobloch put up 11 points with five goals, a two-point goal and four assists.

Scott continued to excel in his second pro season with the Chaos. The midfielder played in 11 games with 12 goals and a career-high eight assists for a career-high 20 points.

Coming off a strong winter season playing indoors in the NLL, Charalambides had his best career PLL season after previously seeing action in five games over three years with the Cannons. Charalambides teamed up with three other fellow Scarlet Knights on the Chaos' offense and thrived, he played in nine games and scored 14 goals with two assists.

Boston Cannons – Colin Kirst, Connor Kirst, Ethan Rall

Rall remains one of the league's top long-stick midfielders. He had 13 caused turnovers, the third most in the league. Rall also scooped 23 ground balls and scored a goal.

Colin Kirst had 133 saves (fourth in the league), saving 50% of his shots faced. He also collected 21 ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Connor Kirst played in 10 games in his second with the Cannons and fifth PLL season overall. He scored six goals, plus one two-point goals and two assists, along with 12 ground balls and a caused turnover, while also stepping in two win eight faceoffs.

Philadelphia Waterdogs: Christian Scarpello

Scarpello has carved out a five-season career in the PLL with the Waterdogs. This season, he played five games with three goals and six ground balls.

Ronan Jacoby (Redwoods), Brian Cameron (Cannons), Matthew Paolatto (Whipsnakes) and Drake Porter (Atlas) were all with teams in training camp but did not see any game action this season.
 
Rutgers men's lacrosse has established a strong pipeline to the professional ranks. Rutgers boasts a total of 47 alumni all-time between Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL)

This success placing players in the pros has been accelerated recently, with 35 alumni coached at RU by current head coach Brian Brecht to go on to the professional level.
