PISCATAWAY, NJ - Senior Josh Gros (Mechanicsburg, PA) was named the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News on Monday.
He earns national accolades after scoring the game-deciding goal in Rutgers' 2-0 victory over No. 12 Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 20. Gros assisted junior Richie Arenas' (Guatemala City) game-winning goal in overtime against Monmouth. Gros sent a cross into the box, setting up Arenas for the winning score. He entered last week as the nation's leader in points (14) and goals (6). He now has 16 points (7g, 2a) on the season to lead the BIG EAST in points and goals.
Gros has scored at least one point in each of Rutgers' six games, highlighted by a three-goal performance against Providence on Sept. 6. He has led Rutgers to a 5-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in the BIG EAST.
"Josh has been great for us all season," said Rutgers head coach Bob Reasso. "He had a tremendous goal for us Saturday night and made a great cross to set up Richie Arenas for the game-winning goal against Monmouth."
The forward was also named this week's BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second time he has received the honor this season.
Rutgers will return to action at Virginia Tech on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m.
