Women's Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision to Syracuse

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers women’s volleyball team (11-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) won the first game, but eventually fell short 3-1 to BIG EAST foe Syracuse (16-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) (18-30, 30-18, 30-28, 34-32) on Sunday, Oct. 10, at the Rutgers College Avenue Gymnasium.
Sophomore Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) led the Scarlet Knights with a career-high 23 kills, followed by senior Dawn Christjaener (Huntington Beach, CA) and junior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) with 19 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior Abbey Martin (Topeka, KS) registered a team-high 58 assists and nine digs.
Defensively, senior Casey Castillo (Honolulu, HI) led the way with a match-high 14 digs, followed by Christjaener with 12. Young was once again a force at the net, tallying nine total blocks, while Yankauskas added six block assists.
The Scarlet Knights return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m. when they will take on in-state rival Seton Hall at the Rutgers College Avenue Gymnasium.
