PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers sophomore goalkeeper Robyn Jones (Titusville, NJ) has been named to the Soccerbuzz National Elite Team of the Week for Division I women’s soccer, the group has announced.
Jones made a season-high nine saves on 20 Fighting Irish shots to lead Rutgers to a 0-0 double-overtime draw at No. 1 Notre Dame (15-0-1, 9-0-1 BIG EAST) Oct. 22 for the first blemish on the Irish’s record this season.
Jones previously was named the BIG EAST and ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week Sept. 13 after leading RU to a 1-0 victory against No. 12 Santa Clara Sept. 10 and a 2-1 double-overtime victory against Michigan State Sept. 12. She is the second Scarlet Knight to be named to the Soccerbuzz National Team of the Week, following in the footsteps of junior back Kim Brandao (Rahway, NJ), who earned that distinction Sept. 13.
Rutgers (9-9-1, 4-5-1 BIG EAST), the seventh seed, will play at second-seeded and No. 25 Connecticut (15-5, 8-2 BIG EAST) Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1:00 p.m. in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals.
